Chalk Up

Spring Break. Lazy afternoon. Rain decided to let up. Sun came out. So did the sidewalk chalk. And the inspiration.

I love the flowers and vines, the all-seeing eye, the solar system, and, most of all, the blue and yellow lines that stretch from one end of the cul de sac to eternity.

What’s happier than a thirteen-year-old with some sidewalk chalk?—a thirteen-year-old after the entire sidewalk and half the street have been properly painted and christened. That, and a mother—me!—with camera in hand. Funny how the older you get, the more a few hearty hours of childhood means, whether you’re the artist or the museum-goer, as it were.

Tomorrow, I think I’m going to get the chalk out and draw my own facsimile of the Sistine Chapel on my driveway, except that in my rendering, God will be reaching out his finger to touch the fingertip of my precocious thirteen-year-old muralist.

Gather your kids around you for a stunning virtual tour of the Sistine Chapel. You can zoom in and out, rotate in any direction, and gaze as long as you want—without ANYone hurrying you along! Go to Sistine Chapel  and be prepared to gasp. The ‘soundtrack’ is also exquisite. Nothing like period music sung in Latin to enhance the views.
